Vashti means beautiful. The Vashti Wall Passage* vessel is made from a giant, single Alexander Palm sheath, and this is its natural color. No paint or stain, just a hand rubbed polyurethane finish applied for durability. The natural grains just beg you to run your hand down it.
The day she finished the vessel, she had become enamored with a particular song (The Train Song) currently done by Feist, but written and first recorded by Vashti Bunyan (English singer/songwriter) in 1966. "I had both versions on repeat and when naming time came around - Vashti seemed perfect. I hope you listen to the song when you hang the piece in your home."
The top ruffled edge is the natural edge of the sheath, and embellishments up the front are hand blown glass beads and sliced cowrie shells. It's completed with with hand rubbed polyurethane finish.
Wall vessels can be combined for a powerful grouping. Mix and match different pieces for a unique grouping that really makes a statement on your wall. Collectors have found that these organic 3D vessels really compliment their 2D art neighbors by making them pop a bit more. Whether used singly or in a group, wall pieces are perfect for high ceilings, or stairwells, and with the addition of a few dried branches can really draw the eye upward.
*These wall vessels are called Passages because with the addition of dried branches they emulate tree trunks with their branches high in the sky. Shelley likes to think they are reminding us to be centered, by sending our roots down into the ground and sending our good vibes out to the world.
Like all of Shelley's creations, this is a one of a kind piece that cannot be duplicated; it is literally a piece of Hawaiʻi Island. Each sheath is sustainably harvested from natural fallen leaves from beautiful, giant palm trees (about 10 different varieties). A wonderful way to remember your island experience or bring the warmth of the tropics into everyday life. #takehawaiihome
