Passage of Golden Cracks - the name comes from a Leonard Cohen verse, "There is a crack in everything - That's how the light gets in."
Gold metallic paint fills the cracks of this unique Royal Palm sheath with mottled markings of a full life. Formed while wet and stitched with waxed linen. Completed with a museum quality encaustic wax finish (an ancient preservation process using beeswax and Damar tree resin that fuses into the plant fibers when heated). It can be buffed to a shine or left to a matte finish.
*The Passage series was created to emulate tree trunks, as they are the passage that connects the earth to the sky. With the addition of dried branches they draw the eye upward and add presence to a larger space. Shelley likes to think they are reminding us to be centered, by sending our roots down into the ground and sending our good vibes out to the world. They have a loop on the back of each vessel that makes hanging very easy.
Wall vessels can be combined for a powerful grouping. Mix and match different pieces for a unique grouping that really makes a statement on your wall. Collectors have found that these organic 3D vessels really compliment their 2D art neighbors by making them pop a bit more. Whether used singly or in a group, wall pieces are perfect for narrow spots, areas with high ceilings, and even stairwells.
Like all of Shelley's creations, this is a one of a kind piece that cannot be duplicated; it is literally a piece of Hawaiʻi Island. Each sheath is sustainably harvested from natural fallen leaves from beautiful, giant palm trees (about 10 different varieties). A wonderful way to remember your island experience or bring the warmth of the tropics into everyday life. #takehawaiihome
