Renato's Basket is named after the Brazilian artist (Renato Crepaldi) who created the hand-marbled paper used in the trim. This unique basket is made from a single Chambreyonia Palm sheath. The colors are all natural, as are the stripes across the front that were created by removing the top layer of sheath to reveal the under color. Two stitches of Raffia Palm fiber hold this sturdy, thick basket form together. Formed while wet, the piece dries permanently into shape. Multi colored wood beads hang from each side, the hand marbled paper trims the back and embellishes the natural front ruffled edge. The inside has been painted with a beautiful dusty turquoise blue.
Sturdy enough for magazines, rolled up towels or anything else you may put in a basket. It's finished with a hand rubbed polyurethane.
Like all of Shelley's creations, this is a one of a kind piece that cannot be duplicated; it is literally a piece of Hawaiʻi Island. Each sheath is sustainably harvested from natural fallen leaves from beautiful, giant palm trees (about 10 different varieties). A wonderful way to remember your island experience or bring the warmth of the tropics into everyday life. #takehawaiihome
